Valley Entrepeneur Finds Success With Designer Crutches

Her tools are all pretty in pink. But Cookie Tanney is the brainchild behind "pretty hurt."

 

She designing crutches for the disabled. Every pair is tailored to her client's needs.

 

“I just try to be involved in someone's everyday life and make it as normal as possible,” says Tanney.

 

There are crutches with bling, peace signs, trees, and attachments… from cup holders to bottle openers on the side.

 

“You're going to do what you do every weekend, why not be the life of the party…instead of the person that's hurt of the party,” says Tanney.

 

Her best friend Ernie inspired the idea five years ago when he hurt his ankle.

At the time, she had just completed her art degree and was working for her dad's machine shop.

 

“Well we're not going to go out if you have ugly crutches… basically her theory in life so we pimped them out and that's how it worked,” Ernie says.

 

She does everything out of her Downtown Fresno loft.

Now, working on selling to hospitals and even celebs...like Lakers Star Kobe Bryant who recently sprained his ankle.

 

But she remembers to take things one step a time.

 

“It's definitely trial and error; starting something from scratch is difficult but that's the exciting part,” she says.
