More local firefighters are heading down south to help fight the Springs Fire in Ventura County.
The Springs Fire has consumed more than 10,000 acres and is only 10% contained.
A 20-person hotshot crew left Friday morning. It's a Sierra National Forest team of firefighters based out of Pine Flat.
It's grueling, hard work for the firefighters that have special training to use hand tools instead of water.
It's their first assignment of the season and the captain says his team is excited and ready to work.
The biggest issue in Springs Fire is the Santa Ana winds. Once they die down, the fire attack is most effective.
Adam Hernandez said "Hotshot crews, we're more of a highly trained, experienced group that goes out to more of the remote areas and tend to go after that type of stuff where it's inaccessible for engines and water."
The Fresno Fire Department has 6 firefighters in Southern California and one in Northern California helping efforts there. Cal Fire has sent 60 firefighters from the Fresno area to help on the Springs Fire.
