20-year-old Jack Wiegand lifted off from Fresno on Thursday, May 2nd attempting to be the youngest person to fly solo around the world.
The trip is expected to take 40 to 50 and cost around $250,000.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters hosted a fundraiser over the weekend to help raise money for Jack's effort. "Taking Big Brothers, Big Sisters on as a benefactor is really important because these kids are such a similar age to me," said Jack.
Richard Lord, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters said, "It's great to have somebody like Jack who is taking off an adventure, who had a dream and is going to be able to fulfill it."
Jack's Dream will take flight next month when he departs Fresno in his single engine plane.
It will be nearly two months before he returns but when he does, he hopes to find many more adventures waiting to depart. "If they could potentially see something that I'm doing, and if I can encourage them to do something like this, I think that is a really, really cool thing," said Jack.
Jack's trip will make 24 stops in 14 different countries.
