Fresno Police are searching for a murder suspect after a young man was shot and killed Tuesday evening.  It happened on Sierra Madre Avenue, which is near the Fresno State campus at Shaw and Cedar.

Fresno Police arrived on the scene around 7:45 p.m.  Lying in the street in front of the Cedar-Shaw Apartments, officers found a black man in his 20s with gunshot wounds to his head.

“He was non-responsive.  CPR was administered.  The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” said Lt. Jose Garza of the Fresno Police Dept.

Police say the suspect who ran away is also a black man in his 20s.  He has dreadlocks stretching down to his shoulders.

“We don’t know what the motive is or if it’s gang-related,” said Lt. Garza.
John Atencio, who was staying at a hotel across the street, was alarmed by the sound of six gun shots.

“I’m not from here I’m just in town working.  It’s crazy, just sign of the times and it’s happening everywhere,” said John Atenico, a hotel guest.

This murder comes just two days after an officer involved shooting which took place nearby on Cedar Avenue.  Police shot and injured 23-year old Keith Breazell, a man suspected of being tied to a recent gang shooting.

Since both of these cases happened so close together, investigators are checking to see if there is any overlap.

“Of course they’re going to look at anybody we were dealing with during that incident, people we contacted at the apartment complex,” said Lt. Garza.

This is Fresno’s 13th murder of the year.
