The Clovis Rodeo is back for the 99th year. All day long, organizers and vendors have been setting up for the big event. Over the course of four days, tens of thousands of people come out to enjoy the performances. Thursday night kicks things off with Professional Bull Riding.
It all starts with a wildly bucking bull. Some say PBR night is the best one of them all.
"The crowd just goes crazy and it's just fun to watch a massive animal just throwing a little guy on top of him," said Rick Flores, a Clovis resident.
Flores donated blood Thursday afternoon and got a coupon for Sunday's event. It's buy one ticket and get one free. Another money saver is the bundle deal for Thursday and Friday's rodeo and concert.
"You can save $5 bucks on that and that helps, it's like 10% you'd save on that. The other good deal is the $5 tri-tip sandwich. It is awesome!" said Mark Thompson, Clovis Rodeo Director.
Scott Scharton and his tri-tip committee are experts at the craft. He learned from his father and grandfather.
"Our own secret dry rub on it, and bbq with some almond wood and that's it. It's ready to go," said Scharton.
He hopes to go through the 10,000 pounds of tri-tip purchased for this weekend. Parking is free, but it fills up fast. It's best to arrive early, get some food, and get your seat for the show. The experts say there's no right way to do it, just enjoy the ride.
