It was a run unlike any other, a symbolic show of support for a city and people thousands of miles away.
”I’m going to go back every year to show them that we are going to beat them," said runner John Volkman.
Thousands of valley runners and walkers came out for the Run forBoston . At roughly two miles, it offered little in the way of challenges but for run organizer David Larson, it was about much more.
"People inBoston kept going, kept doing it and we are doing the same thing here," said Larson.
And for runner John Volkman, who was yards from the finish line when the first bomb went off, this run was a welcome release.
"This is just overwhelming, I see so many friends, so many people that I've coached have come by and given me hugs. It has all been just fantastic," said Volkman.
From Sweet Caroline to Boston Red Sox Jerseys, participants did their best to support everythingBoston.
"This is incredible.Fresno has a huge running and walking community and it is just incredible. We are one big family," said runner Mark Dorman.
Dorman was at the Boston Marathon this year, what happened left him shocked and scared for days after. But he says he has every intention of going back next year.
"Runners are not afraid. Everybody that I've talked to including myself, we plan to go back and the city ofBoston wants us back," said Dorman.
