Charle Brown's cousin was shot on the streets in a gang related battle Thursday evening.
“I don't know who was out to get him or whatever happened. i don't know about that...but i will find out. thank you very much,”she said.
She says he had just left the store.
“They was buying sodas, that's it and I spoke to him...I say hi...and he asked me if I seen his mom and I said, no not yet,” she said.
The shooting started on
The victim ran through neighborhoods.
“Through our initial investigation, it looks as if there was a run and gun battle,” said Fresno Police Lt. Mike Doyle.
The driver followed him...fired a few more rounds... and sped off.
Paramedics gave him CPR right away.
“Oh...he shot my baby!” yelled Elaine Jordan.
Moms, so used to gang violence in the neighborhood, ran to the crime scene...hysterical that it could be their son this time.
“Oh my God. What is wrong with them? Lord have mercy. What is going on?” she asked.
Last month, just a mile away, police shot a suspect accused of shooting and killing a 23-year old man.
Police feared gang-retaliation.
“We are definitely investigating that avenue,” said Lt. Doyle.
Neighbors believe it comes down to a bigger issue: Guns in the wrong hands.
“They need to stop everybody with these guns. Killing parents' kids. It's not right,” said Charle Brown.
Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call Crimestoppers at 498-STOP.
