One local race for congress is heating up.  John Hernandez announced he's running in the newly drawn 21st District.  Hernandez is the C.E.O. of the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  State Senator Michael Rubio pulled out of the race last month.

Hernandez says he's a conservative democrat who wants to promote small business.  He's in favor of the high speed rail project.

“High speed rail is going to be a critical infrastructure project for the valley.  We need to make it happen.  The bottom line of this campaign is [David] Valadao is for the past; I'm for the future,” said Hernandez.

The republican candidate David Valadao responded in a statement:

"Mr. Hernandez is an unabashed supporter of High Speed Rail and does not live in the newly drawn 21st Congressional district.  I would invite him to visit the district he seeks to represent and listen to the people who live here, as I have. As a farmer, dairyman, and lifelong resident of Kings County, I believe I am best equipped to bring the message of private sector job creation and reliable water supplies to the Nation's Capitol. That being said, I wish him the best of luck."
