The Clovis Community Band was honored Monday night at the Clovis City Council meeting for its selection to perform in Normandy, France on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
The Clovis band is one of only five in the country to receive an invitation.
Band member Ken Maul said, "This will be a first for the City of Clovis, an incredible honor for the city and for the Clovis Community Band."
Don Watnick with the Clovis Veterans Memorial District said, "There are going to be a number of other events to help us raise approximately $200,000 to get about 70 of the band members to Normandy."
A dinner dance is planned in August along with a wine trail event.
The anniversary performance will take place in June of next year but most of the money needs to be raised this year.
