Police are on high alert and extra officers are patrolling Southwest Fresno after threats were made against officers.  It all stemmed from an officer involved shooting Sunday afternoon.  Police say the suspect shot may have murdered a man early Sunday morning.

A distraught mother pour bleach over blood stains on Strother and Arthur Avenues on Monday.  Chantel Lewis says it's left over from when police shot her son, 24-year-old Jerel Stanfield.  Her raw emotion when she first got to the scene is apparent in a neighbor's home video.

Lewis says her son is now in critical condition after being shot three times.  She and Stanfield's pregnant girlfriend don't think he deserved to be shot.

"They're trying to cover up what they did so they want to say all these bad things about him but I don't believe it.  I've been knowing him for a while and I haven't seen any of it," said Katoia Gray, the suspect's girlfriend.

The Fresno Police Chief says officers were protecting their safety.  They believe the suspect is responsible for killing William Simpson at 3am on Sunday and several other gang-related shootings.    Violence in the streets is spiking.

"[Gang members are] not rational.  Many really don't care if they live or die," said Chief Jerry Dyer.

The Boys and Girls Club tries to reach out to kids at an early age and show them a different way.

Police are now trying to protect innocent people from those who've chosen a life of crime.  Threats against officers since the shooting are being taken very seriously.
