Fresno Police are on high alert after an accused gang member and murderer is shot by officers. Police say it all started just after three Sunday morning in North Fresno when another suspected gang member was shot and killed. When officers caught up with the man suspected in the shooting a police pursuit began.

"That pursuit ultimately lead into the area of Strother and Arthur," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

That's where Chief Dyer says officers were able to spin out the suspect's car and he jumped out and ran.

"Two officers gave chase and at some point according to the officers the suspect made some sort of movement that caused the officers to believe he was arming himself, the officers did in fact fire their weapons at the suspect," said Dyer.

Police later found a hand gun on the suspect, whose name has not yet been released. Friends of the suspect gathered at the hospital, trying to get into the emergency room. Extra officers were stationed at the ER to keep the peace.

Neighbors say they don't know who he is but they aren't surprised violence has again made its way to their front door.

"I feel unsafe, you ain't safe in your home, you ain't safe in your yard, you ain't safe no place," said Willie Brown.

Police remain vigilant after receiving calls threatening retaliation. SWAT members have been called in and Chief Dyer says more action is planned.

“We are involving ourselves in a gang operation this evening to not only insure more gang retaliation doesn't happen this evening but there are no threats carried out against Fresno Police Officers," said Dyer.
