Family and friends of Fernando Buenrostro Jr. came together in Los Banos to pay tribute to the quiet kid that Uncle Lupe Castillo remembers always being fascinated by the world around him.
"He is a very inquisitive little boy when he was growing up. Got into everything and really questioned everything he did. And I think that's what brought him to the service," said Castillo.
Buenrostro had just signed up with the Army National Guard when he was hit and killed by a truck last week. Police later arrested 23-year-old Jesse Fuentes who they say fled the scene after hitting Buenrostro, who was riding a motorized scooter.
"Catching the suspect brought us a little closer, but I know down the road once the court hearings begin these wounds will open up again," said Castillo.
Wounds that are deepened by the unfulfilled dreams and potential of Buenrostro, who told friends he was ready to risk his life for his country, a life cut short before he had the chance.
