CBS47's Political Analyst Don Larson says regardless of where you stand politically, the President's speech struck a chord.

"President Obama gave an eloquent speech, but then he always does, he's a master at delivery. He also covered a variety of points and really launched his campaign for re-election for 2012," said Larson.

The President talked about Iraq, the auto industry, taxes and much more. Larson says Tuesday night's speech was geared toward independent voters.

"The independent voter is large enough right now in order to affect the election and he's speaking to that group," said Larson.

Over at the Starline in Fresno, there was a watch party for local democrats; people there say the President's speech resonated.

"It was a great speech, very hopeful, about bringing people together to renew the American dream and you do that by restoring the middle class in this country," said Matt Rodgers, Fresno Co. Democrats.

Congressman Jeff Denham and Congressman Jim Costa were in Washington and they talked to CBS47 by phone after listening to the President's speech.

"He really appealed to congress to follow what has been a true simple truth that America for years it's entire history and that is when America and Americans come together we have far more in common than what divided us," said Congressman Costa.

Congressman Denham spoke about the President's message to those who call the Central Valley home.

"You know American made energy is something that will affect the valley and a balanced approach utilize some of the natural resources that we have right here in the valley will create jobs and we need to make sure that it is truly a balanced approach," said Denham.
