Since the hit and run accident, many friends and family have stopped by a memorial site to light candles and lay flowers near where Fernando was hit and dragged by the vehicle.
"The only thing that I was thinking, I was just talking to God and telling him please don't take him away from me...don't take him away from me," said Fernando Buenrostro Sr., Fernando's father.

"I don't see myself living with something like that, or carrying something like that the rest of my days," said Buenrostro Sr.

"He was hooked up to the machine and...and when I saw him, I just knew he wasn't there," said Buenrostro Sr.
Fernando was riding a motorized scooter when he was hit by a truck dragging him around 200 feet. Police say the driver fled leaving Fernando suffering from major trauma to his head, chest and legs.
"The way they hit him...it was just...he didn't even feel anything," said Buenrostro Sr.
He was air-lifted to the Doctors Hospital in Modesto where he died early Sunday morning.
Fernando had served in the Army National Guard for about a year.

I just want to be here for him, show him that I care," said classmate, Ashley LeFevre as she sobs.
Another friend, Gregory Murillo said, "I don't know, it's just pretty sad how they just left and kept going."
Police say witnesses describe the hit and run vehicle as a light colored, possibly grey or white lifted truck. Fernando's father pleads for new clues and that the driver turn himself in.
"I don't see myself living with something like that, or carrying something like that the rest of my days," said Buenrostro Sr.
Fernando had wished to be cremated and be placed with his grandparents in Mexico.
