The crash happened near Laton around 9 p.m. Friday on Highway 43, north of Cairo Ave.
The California Highway Patrol says a total of four vehicles were involved. One man was killed and two others were airlifted to the hospital. The woman transported sustained major injuries and a four year old boy was moderately hurt.
Amazingly, the driver of a pickup truck was unharmed after hitting a power pole and flipping over. C.H.P. says he crashed while trying to avoid an oncoming car.
Seconds after that collision, two cars crashed head on and then another car rammed into the back of one of those vehicles. All three cars caught fire. The man in the center vehicle died.
PG&E crews were called out to disable live power lines.
Investigators are still trying to determine who caused the wreck.
