Many changes proposed for Yosemite

Proposed changes include closing the swimming pools at the Ahwahnee Hotel and Yosemite Lodge and the elimination of the ice skating rink in Curry Village.

A meeting was held Thursday night at the Oakhurst Senior Center to allow residents of the mountain community to voice their opinion.

Changes are coming and now is the time for the public to comment on the proposed environmental rules that could change the visitor experience at Yosemite National Park.

Other proposed changes include moving bridges and buildings, closing some businesses that rent things like bikes, put limits on river rafters, day rental horseback riding, even shutting down some features all together.

The proposal is in response to lengthy legal proceedings on how the park should best care for its natural resources.

Max Stauffer, owner of Sugar Pine Railroad at Fish Camp says the rules go too far. "It's going to limit your opportunities. It gets people to give second thought to visiting the park," said Stauffer.

Whatever your opinion of the proposals counts right now because the proposal remains a draft until next month.

The proposal is 2500 pages thick contained in 3 volumes, but you do not have to read them to give your opinion, just tell the National Park Service what you think. They have meetings coming up. You can email them and you can even contact your U.S. Representative.
