Tears were shed as hundreds gathered to ride and remember SunnysideHigh School teacher Jim Healy on Saturday.

"We are here to show love on the school, we are here to show love on the students and we are here to show love on the family," said Fresno Bike Party organizer and Sunnyside Alum, Gwendolyn Racca.

Racca knew she had to do something when she heard Healy had been struck and killed while riding his bike earlier this week. And a memorial bike ride only seemed fitting, something Sunnyside High Teacher Tasha Hicks knows would have made him proud.

"He loved bike's, he loved computers, he loved his kids, he loved his family, he loved his church. So as many of those things as we could bring together to honor and celebrate him we wanted to do," said Hicks.

Raymond Tavares remembers Healy as a loyal friend of twenty years and the guy who was always willing to help others.

"He was always happy to see you and he loved his wife and he loved his kids and just was a great guy," said Tavares.

And perhaps Healy's greatest legacies are students like Marco Hernandez, who carry the knowledge and inspiration Healy gave them each day in class.

“He would always try to improve us in technology and that's what I like about him. He was a very good friend to me too because it didn't matter if it was on that subject he would help you out, he was a very loving man," said Hernandez.
