Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin visited CBS47 on Monday to talk about efforts to create jobs in Fresno.
Mayor Swearengin was on Fox News earlier Monday morning talking about jobs and was also in the New York Times last week.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors met last week and about 250 mayors were represented in Washington for their winter meeting. The focus of the meeting was things that can be done at the local level to create jobs.
While there is a great deal of frustration due to state budget cuts and the ongoing financial crisis facing the country, the mayors focused on what can be done now with the jobs that are available and the companies already in place that could expand to create more jobs.
Mayor Swearengin said, “We’re focused on what we can do here at the local level to support job creation, to get people trained for jobs that are available and to put the infrastructure in place that’s really going to help those businesses that are already here to expand.”
Next week, Mayor Swearengin will be delivering the State of Downtown to talk about what can be done to help move the city forward.
