A federal study shows this season's flu vaccine isn't doing much to protect the elderly.
The flu shot was only effective less than 10% in protecting seniors against the most common and dangerous flu bug.
The vaccine is 56% effective for all age groups.
David Luchini, assistant director for the Fresno County Health Department says the protection of the vaccine goes down as we get older. "This was a tougher year in a sense for a great protection from the vaccine, however it's still the best tool. You know there's still no better tool in protecting for influenza or severe complications from influenza," said Luchini.
Experts say the findings released highlight the need for a better vaccine.
