Fresno County plans to turn off the street lights in Calwa sometime in February.
The move comes after property owners voted against paying a fee to keep the lights on.
Homeowners would have been charged about $25 a year to keep the lights on, while businesses would have paid around $56 dollars.
Instead, all 36 light poles in the county island of Calwa will go dark.
A community meeting was held Monday night to make sure residents understood what was happening.
Individuals who would still like the light pole in front of their home or business to work can get theirs turned on through PG&E for around $12 per month.
