Three suspects are in custody after a home invasion attempt ends with an officer involved shooting.
The shooting happened around 6:00 a.m. at Cambridge and Blackstone near Clinton in Fresno.
The men were well equipped with guns, bolt cutters, zip ties, walkie talkies and the suspect that was shot was even wearing a bullet proof vest.
Police say the suspects cut through a chain link fence outside the home and then busted down a side door. The man living inside the home ran out and called 911 from a pay phone.
When police arrived, all three suspects took off in different directions. One suspect was in a car and two were on foot but all three were caught by police.
Captain Dennis Bridges with the Fresno Police Department explained why an officer shot one of the suspects three times. "That suspect kicked out some boards and made their way into the residence next door and the officer saw the suspect was armed with a large semi automatic handgun, and fearing for his safety, the officer fired shots and hit the suspect. The suspect went down right there," said Cpt. Bridges.
The suspect was shot in the lower extremities and is expected to survive.
The three suspects were between the ages of 25 and 32-years-old and at least two are believed to Bulldog gang members.
The five victims living in the home were not injured.
Police say the suspects may be tied to other recent home invasion robberies.
