The California Highway Patrol arrested a man Monday night following a chase that began near the Save Mart Center in Fresno.
CHP attempted to pull the car over because it was driving along Highway 168 with no tail lights.
The driver took off and eventually jumped out of the car in a nearby apartment complex and ran off on foot but was not able to evade capture.
Sgt. Jeremy Key with the California Highway Patrol said, "...and during the whole process of chasing the suspect, the officer saw him throw a gun, what appeared to be a gun, and after the driver was caught, they searched the area where the object had been thrown and found a gun with an extra capacity magazine attached to it."
Officers had to use a taser during the arrest.
The suspect is being held in the Fresno County Jail.
