It was a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Close to 2,000 people marched in the 28th annual Martin Luther King Day celebration in Downtown Fresno. One of them was Denise Robinson, for her marching brings back very special memories.
"When I was six years old, we were in Selma Alabama and we marched with Dr. King with my grandmother," said Robinson.
She was only six, but over the years she came to understand the meaning of marching with Dr. King. "Its an unbelievable feeling," she said.
People marched from St. John's Cathedral to City Hall and finally the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium for a ceremony with performances, keynote speakers and awards. The event conmemorates Dr. King's 83rd birthday.
CBS47's Zara Arboleda was the Mistress of Ceremony. She talked about the changes she wants to see, especially went it comes to her young children who are of mixed nationalities. "People will look at them, they're only four and 2 and half right now, and the first question out of their mouths is not hey what are you? I was always born and raised to say im a human being and an american first," said Arboleda.
Robinson agrees, "You dont have as much hatred but I still think theres a long way to go for there to be peace among everyone."
