Law enforcement will be out in force New Year's Eve to keep the roads safe from drunk drivers.

CBS47 wants to wish our viewers a Happy New Year and remind everyone to celebrate safely Monday night. If you plan to drink, please plan to have a sober driver.

Drinking and driving is not only dangerous, it can be very expensive if you're arrested for DUI.

There will be extra officers are all over the Valley, cracking down for the holiday.

Officers are keeping closer tabs on blood alcohol levels this weekend, as more people celebrate the New Year.

So far this year, Fresno police have made an astounding 3,169 DUI arrests. That nearly 300 more than in 2011.

Sergeant Anthony Dewall says fatal car crashes involving alcohol are up too. Last year there were 6 and there have been 9 this year. "Although we feel we're winning the battle regarding DUI arrests, we'd like to see those fatalities be at zero, whether they're DUI caused or not," said Dewall.

Bars and night clubs are expected to be busy through early Tuesday morning and everyone should have a designated driver.

Dewall says there's really no excuse to drive while intoxicated. "A friend or there's all kinds of organizations. You can pay them $20 to give you a ride home. They'll even take your car home along with you," said Dewall.

Sober Guys Inc. is a local company that has a team of drivers, just a phone call away, who keeps you and everyone else on the road safe. Rob Galvez with Sober Guys said, "Drinking and driving effects everyone, not just yourself. For a flat rate, Sober Guys will take you home."
