Fresno County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a homicide in Calwa. It happened just before 7 pm Saturday near the intersection of Jensen and 9th Street. Investigators say a man in his late 20's was found lying on the sidewalk in front of a business stabbed to death. No arrests have been made.

Detectives worked late through the night and into the early morning hours searching for physical evidence and gathering interviews.

"Just talking to people in the area trying to get a better understanding of what happened and hopefully we'll catch a break that will lead us to an arrest of the person responsible for this," said Sgt. Leo Lopez of the Fresno Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Sergeant Lopez says the victim was not conscious when deputies arrived, so they were not able to get any last words out of him.

"There's nothing to lead me to believe this is gang related, but again it's early in the investigation and that could change," said Sgt. Lopez.

On Friday, this same street was the scene of an armed robbery. Deputies say two Hispanic men in their late 20's or early 30's used a pistol and a shotgun to hold up the clerk at Lili's Baby Supplies and More. The store also serves as a money wiring station. The suspects got away with a large amount of cash.

"The armed robbery was virtually next door, across the street. It's too early to say if there's any relation between the two," said Sgt. Lopez.

This marks Fresno County's first homicide of 2012.
