Valley Christmas traditions

Lines at a local theater indicate seeing a movie is a popular past time on Christmas.  Some say they've been doing it for years.

“We watch the basketball games and then we go to the movies,” said Marjorie Norman, celebrating Christmas in Fresno.

Meanwhile, bright lights and holiday cheer draw many to Christmas Tree Lane.  Over the course of the holiday season, more than 100,000 people visit Van Ness.

“My kids are 20 and 22 now and we've been doing it since they were babies,” said Kim Muratore, who walked Christmas Tree Lane with her family.

Others are changing things up this holiday.  One family drove from Squaw Valley to downtown Fresno to check out the new ice skating rink.  Angelica Ruybal thinks it could be the start of a new tradition.

“I really hope so ‘cause it's really fun,” said Ruybal.

From family to family, there is one tradition almost everyone has in common: eating.

“We had breakfast and watched TV, and ate more, and ate more, and watched more TV,” said Muratore.

After eating and Santa, the longest running local tradition has to be Christmas Tree Lane, which is now 90th year of entertaining valley residents.
