Flank steak and mashed potatoes made Christmas merry for some of Fresno’s neediest residents.

“It’s a blessing…” said a mom during lunch.

Toys waiting to be unwrapped...was the cherry on top.

“A lot of presents right here in here for her...and thank you so much!,” said another mom holding a bag full of presents.

The Poverello House did it again. 11 straight years of giving to people who don't have much...or anything.

“You could see in their faces just the thanks. The struggles that some of these parents have coming in...” said Volunteer Ed Lujano.

Hundreds lined up for gifts at 5am Christmas Day.

“Poverello house has a history of never running out of anything...not food...gifts...blankets...coats...” said Poverello House Development Director Kathryn Weakland.

Donations were down this year, but the community came through over the weekend, and volunteers passed out a total of 4,000 gifts.

“I feel happy because I get to be with my family,” said a little girl at the lunch table.

Volunteer families like the the Bernals, mom dad and kids made that happiness possible.

Dedicating Christmas to serving a growing segment of the community.

“It’s very humbling. Very gratifying. I feel emotional right now and I hope my children are feeling that as well,” said Volunteer Diane Bernal.
