“It was scary, very scary,” said witness, Jorge Acosta.
Acosta says he was pulling out of his driveway when he heard tires screeching.
“I was kind of in the middle. They were shooting that way, but I was right here so I don't know what was going on so my wife said you know what just get inside,” said Acosta.
Police say the
“There's rumors already going around coming from that department that there was something else that was implied,” said David Romero.
Romero has a concealed weapons permit and had a handgun with him at the time.
He says the
“He was on my left hand side I guess, blocked his vehicle from me trying to get away and started shooting and I went down, threw my weapon down on the floorboard, which I never fired it and I guess one of the bullets caught my hand when it was still up by the steering wheel,” said Romero.
Acosta says he witnessed the shooting.
“They're saying the guy in the white truck had a gun in the truck, I never see the gun but I see the other guy pulling his gun and throw six shots,” said Acosta.
Romero says he never considered opening fire out of concern of hitting an innocent bystander.
Romero was taken to a hospital to treat his hand wound. He was also breathalyzed to see if he was under the influence of alcohol, then taken to jail and charged with brandishing a weapon.
The investigation is ongoing.
“Well from our standpoint it's a normal shooting. The fact that it involved a law enforcement officer you know we still do what we would normally do,” said Chief Steve Frazier of the Madera Police Department.
