Gang related shooting in Merced County

An 18 year old is shot in a possible gang shooting.

Wednesday a teen was walking on Childs Avenue in Planada when a Chevy truck pulled up next to him, inside the truck were five males who opened fire on the teen.

The victim was transported to a Modesto area hospital where he underwent surgery and is expected to recover. The victim is a validated gang member and investigators believe it was a gang related incident.

Merced Police spotted the truck in an alley off of 6th Street. The occupant of the vehicle took off running and was able to get away. Merced Police found a handgun inside the vehicle and say, it is believed to be the one used in the shooting.
