As the Connecticut community lit candles for 20 children and 6 adults... Fresno moms and their kids yearned to help.

“She's 8 years old and she's the one that came and offered to help,” said Pamela Larson.

Pamela Larson's 8-year old daughter Hannah got to work with the rest of the Valley girl scouts... drawing and writing thoughts and poems to the Sandy Hook families.

“I think it hit home that these kids are her age. And hit home with a lot of us…” she said.

8 of the 12 girls killed were Daisy Girl Scouts.

Fresno's Girl Scout’s CEO says the Connecticut chapter came up with the idea as a way for young ones to help... and understand.

“Often times by working on projects they can really kind of get into the discussions that they might not ordinarily get into,” said Cathy Ferguson.

Michelle Perkins says her 12-year old daughter Emily poured her heart into the project.

She's been part of girls scouts since she was a first grader and these little girls were first graders themselves, and so it was important to her to help relate back to those girls.

If they're not crafting themselves... moms are raising money.

The moms club has already raised thousands of dollars for memorial costs.

“3 of the children’s moms were ‘moms club’ members so we're trying to help them,” said Michelle Olson with the Fresno Chapter.

Connecticut moms were just as involved.

And now... as the girls wrote in their poems

The community is stepping in to fill the void.
