Day by day, hour by hour photos of victims in the Newtown tragedy are being released. For many the images are trigering waves of emotion, anger, horror, and disbelief.

"I looked it up online and it really hit me," Christine Lawrence said.

Christine Lawrence recalls the first moment she heard about the massacre and says she quickly turned to the solace of prayer.

"Right away I gave it to the Lord, cause I can't handle it," Lawrence said.

That's exactly what grief counselor, Aurora Winter recommends people to do.

She's an expert on ways to deal with grief, and has written books about it.

Winter says expressing feelings is the first step to healing.

A good time for it can be during the holidays when you're with friends and loved ones.

"Give yourself permission to express your feelings. Talk to a friend or family," Winter said.

The next step is to try and be more forgiving of yourself and others.

"We are pushing against an entire universe. Yesterday is not going to change," Winter said.

Winter says the best way to remember the Newtown victims is to create meaning out of the incomprehensible.

"Let this not be for nothing. Let it call us to our greatness, to tell family we love them," Winter said.

Some Valley residents are giving back to the community turning their mourning into a positive.

"I make an effort to reach out to kids who are side lined, those are the ones who will lash out," James Edwars said.
