CBS47 continues to follow the case of a missing man out of FresnoCounty. Spencer Scarber, 20, was last seen at his Squaw Valley home early Wednesday morning. There was apparently blood outside and a set of crutches he had been using. The missing person is also a defendant in an ongoing rape trial.
Closing arguments were given by the prosecution and defense Thursday. The case was sent to the jury to deliberate at 4pm. Meanwhile, the defendant was completely absent from the courtroom.
Fresno County Sheriff's deputies asked for the public's help to find Scarber on Wednesday. Scarber’s father, Kyle Scarber, a CHP Assistant Chief, reported him missing early that morning.
Spencer Scarber was in the middle of a rape trial, which started on November 29th. He's accused of raping a 34-year-old housekeeper who was cleaning Scarber's neighbor's home in July. There is DNA evidence in the case. Today there were closing arguments, and the case was handed over to the jury to deliberate. This issue of Scarber’s absence was never brought up or explained to the jury.
