A Clovis Unified teacher resigns after being accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student. Clovis police say 28-year-old Lindsey Trimble was arrested Thursday at police headquarters. She was a science teacher at Clovis East High and Reyburn Intermediate Schools. She was in her third year with the district.
Clovis East High School was buzzing after news that a science teacher was arrested for allegedly having sex with a student. One parent found out as he was picking his sons up from school.
"Kinda churns your gut up a little bit, just thinking, 'this is the school where my kids are.' It's disturbing," said Brian Wiebe, a Clovis East parent.
Clovis Unified says it heard reports of an inappropriate relationship Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon, Clovis Police were at the high school, talking to the suspect. Police say there was enough evidence to arrest her that same night.
"She was arrested here at Clovis Police Headquarters for having sex with a minor and oral copulation. She posted bail at $55,000 dollars and was released," said Janet Stoll-Lee, public information officer.
The relationship apparently happened between March and July off campus in Fresno County. Police say Trimble is married and a resident of Auberry. She resigned from her teaching position the night she was arrested.
"No doubt in anyone's mind who works for us what is and is not appropriate; our expectations. We hold our staff to a very high standard... I think the fact that she resigned immediately indicates that the relationship existed," said Kelly Avants, spokesperson for Clovis Unified.
Police do not believe there are any other victims, but the investigation is ongoing. Wiebe is relieved the suspect chose to remove herself from school grounds.
"Teachers are humans too and are prone to mistakes. It's obviously the right thing for her to do," said Wiebe.
Trimble is scheduled to be arraigned in Fresno County court on December 20th.
