Councilmembers voted four to three Thursday, in favor of privatizing residential trash in the city.
They voted the same way last week.
It was the second of three votes in favor of outsourcing trash pick-up to “Mid-Valley Disposal.”
The city hopes to save money and avoid bankruptcy.
But longtime city trash haulers say the move will impact more than 100 jobs.
“Maybe something will strike a cord [this meeting]; If not-we're going to down fighting,” said Richard Martinez whose been hauling Fresno trash for 17 years.
“While it is a cut in pay it is an opportunity to transition, either back to a job in the public sector or to retool or retrain employment elsewhere,” said Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin
Voters have one more chance to express their concerns at next Thursday's council meeting.
That’s when councilmembers will make their third and final vote on the issue.
